I Have No Idea On What to Do or Where to Stay?

I was thinking on planning a 2 day trip to Philadelphia with my husband. We would like to do the tourist route with historical, shopping, and eating. We want to stay in a central location where we can get around easy, but still stay in a nice hotel. I have read a few postings about Penn Landing?? I have absolutely no knowledge of Philadelphia at all. Can someone help me?

Please feel free to peruse some of the earlier postings, but we can certainly help you out.

First, when are you planning on coming and can you give an idea of room budget? This will help with hotel recs.

Second, any particular interest areas we can help with?

Good places to start are:

Society Hill and the historic district are the areas that appeal most to tourists - they%26#39;re very walkable, contain plenty of hotels and restaurants, and are pretty much the epicenter for the big colonial sites like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Roughly, the area between the Delaware River to the east, South Street to the south, Vine Street to the north, and Broad Street to the west.

The other main area for hotels and tourist attractions is Center City, the largely business district west of Broad Street and south of Vine. The term Center City can also be used to mean to entire downtown area, but is more frequently used to differentiate between the areas east and west of Broad Street. This area contains most of the city%26#39;s arts facilities, as well as many of the nice restaurants and shopping.

Philadelphia has never quite figured out what to do with Penn%26#39;s Landing, and the waterfront here is quite disappointing. There are a series of broad plazas which are used for concerts and outdoor events in the summer, a series of docks and (I believe) some ships that can be toured, but overall, it%26#39;s not a vital place.
