Gettysburg in September

Hi all. I%26#39;m planning a trip to Gettysburg in early September, driving. Planning on staying at Country Inn and Suites. I am an older woman traveling alone and I%26#39;m always a little nervous about getting lost, not finding my way to the places I want to see, etc. Love to walk and want to take in as much as possible in a short amount of time. I%26#39;m just wondering how congested getting around Gettysburg becomes, are there ample places to park around the battlefields, in town, etc? Is it easy to find your way around? Would anyone know if Country Inn and Suites is a good location to stay at? Would two FULL days there be enough to see the major points of interest? Would appreciate any responses. Have always looked to Trip Advisor before taking any trips and have found it a wonderful resource. Thanks very much.

Gettysburg in September

Gettysburg tourism changes in September--fewer families with small children, more older travelers. Everything is calmer and quieter, and I go back to driving through town as I go to work and run errands, instead of sticking to the back roads. I am also a cautious driver, and I%26#39;m happy to tell you that there are no scary roads of no return in Gettysburg. If you miss your turn, just drive a little farther and you will find a way to turn around! The square in the center of town makes some people nervous, but it%26#39;s not difficult--just keep right and yield to traffic in the circle.

It%26#39;s pretty easy to navigate Gettysburg. Rt 30, the Lincoln Highway, is the main east-west route, and US 15 is the main north south road. It can be confusing that there is a Business 15 that goes through town, and a bypass that cuts to the east of town. Your hotel is actually on the bypass, a little south of town. It is not within walking distance of the town or battlefield attractions, but it is right at the outlets. The Visitor%26#39;s Center is a very short drive north of your location, on the same road. So you will be quite convenient to that. A little further on the same road, and you will find yourself in the town of Gettysburg, at the most tourist-y spot.

Parking is pretty easy. Be aware that they are enforcing the parking meters more vigilantly. If you like to walk, you may want to avoid the meters and park at the parking garage at Racehorse Alley. From there you can easily walk around the square and the college. I don%26#39;t mind walking down to the shops on Steinwehr from this location, as it%26#39;s a shady downhill walk, but some people find it too far.

I think 2 days is enough to get an overview. You really may want to travel with a battlefield guide to learn as much as you can. My favorite places to visit are Little Round Top and the Peace Light Memorial. Good luck!
