My husband, two daughters (8 and 5) and I are coming to Pennsylvania for a trip from Idaho. We will be staying near Philadelphia. I was wondering if its worth the hour + drive to Hershey to see the Chocolate World and Trolley Tour. I know that the park will be closed (November)so I am not sure if the visit would be worthwhile.
Thanks for your input.
worth the trip?
When in November are you coming to Phila? Hersheypark Christmas Candylane and Sweet Lights Display are open on weekends beginning November 14th, so while Hersheypark won%26#39;t be open in all of it%26#39;s glory, it may be partially open.
Chocolate World is fun and has alot more to offer than it used to even five years ago. (You do know that you are not actually in the plant...the chocolate making tour is a ride that recreates how chocolate is made.) In addition to the ride, there is the trolley tour that you mentioned (which is very fun) and the 3D Show which my kids still love after having seen it too many times to count. There is also the Factory Works Line, which kids do seem to enjoy but I couldn%26#39;t tell you why. Santa is at Chocolate World during the holiday season as well.
But is it worth the trip? As much as it pains me to say it, I%26#39;m not sure. How long will you be in town? What is the purpose of the visit? Will coming to Hershey take away from visiting more significant sites in Phila? Is the trip to Hershey a gift to little girls on a long trip?
The answers to those questions will be the answer to whether or not coming to Hershey is worth the trip.
I really love this town and what it has to offer but I would recommend taking a little bit of time and checking out what is open and what your kids will enjoy. Basically, is it worth two extra hours in the car to two little girls?
I%26#39;d be happy to let you know more about other things to do in and around the area if you decide to come. I%26#39;d recommend taking a look at Hersheypa.com
Good luck and let me know if you%26#39;d like any more info!
worth the trip?
If you do not visit this part of the country often, then I would say it is worth the trip to Hershey since you will be so close. As the previous poster mentioned, depending upon when in November you will be here, HersheyPark%26#39;s Christmas Candylane opens on November 14. Your girls would certainly enjoy that. Chocolate World and the Trolley Tour will also give you a good overview of the area. Zoo America and the Hershey Museum are open year round. You will find plenty to do to fill your day! I hope you enjoy your visit.

I just wanted to update a piece of information...
the Hershey Museum closes at its present location on September 2nd and will reopen at the new location on Chocolate Avenue in January 2009. There will be no museum to visit in the interim.
if you can plan your visit during the candylane period and you celebrate christmas, it will be well worth a visit. Small children will love it most, but it is still very festive for adults as well. I always recommend staying at the hershey lodge to get the most of the holiday experience. Reviews are iffy, but we have had only good experiences during the christmas holiday. if candylane wasn%26#39;t happening during your stay, it still might be worth the drive. It depends what else you may giving up......
